Sampling for Irukandji using an Irukandji sampling net at Palm Cove. Regular sampling is undertaken over the North Queensland summer.
Description
The presence of Irukandji jellyfish along beaches in Northern Queensland is detected by dragging an Irukandji sampling net parallel to the beach. This process is undertaken regularly over the North Queensland summer by life savers and researchers wearing prototective clothing. A model developed through the project will help guide the timing and intensity of sampling.
