Light loggers deployed in seagrass meadows
Photographers: Catherine Collier
Description
Many seagrass meadows in the Great Barrier Reef have their growth limited by the availability of benthic light. Turbid water reduces the amont of light that reaches seagrasses, and when the water becomes too turbid, loss of seagrass has occurred. This image shows light loggers being deployed in Cleveland Bay near Townsville, in the northern Great Barrier Reef. The light level measured will be used to asses how much light seagrasses need, and to validate spatial light predictions (eReefs).
