Rhizomes and roots of three seagrass (H. uninervis, C. serrulata, T. hemprichii) species were collected from 8 sites during routine quarterly monitoring (Australian Government Reef Programme – Marine Monitoring Program) from 2008 to 2015. An additional collection of four species (as above, and also including Z. muelleri) from 39 sites was undertaken in September to November 2014. These samples were analysed for total non-structural carbohydrate content in order to test whether storage reserves are a suitable complimentary indicator of seagrass condition for monitoring.
