Assessing the toxicity of herbicides to reef-building algae

Crustose coralline algae (a red algae) and Halimeda (a green algae) represent two non-coral calcifying taxa that are critical to the structure of coral reefs. We are developing the first standard tests to quantify the effects of herbicides on the calficiation of these ree-building algae.
