Researchers from Project D1 of the Marine Biodiversity Hub of the National Environmental Science Programme present this interactive map-based summary of where pelagic sharks & rays are known to exist in the Commonwealth Marine Reserves of the N and NW regions.
Data were obtained from the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA), the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS), the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and the University of Western Australia (UWA). We took reasonable steps to identify and remove duplicate records when combining these datasets. As our aim in collating this data was to identify locations where pelagic sharks & rays had ever been observed, we retained all data regardless of age. The data contains records of where pelagic sharks & rays are known to exist, but none where they are known to be absent.
